For the cookies:

  1. Cream the butter, shortening, and brown sugar together until smooth.
  2. Stir in eggs, milk, and vanilla.
  3. Sift the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture and blend until smooth. If your dough seems to be really sticky, add up to 1/2 cup of flour (you don't want it to be dry, but it shouldn't be runny). Chill in the fridge for 2-3 hours.
  4. Form the dough into 1" balls on cookie sheets. I like to make them really tiny so they turn into cute little buttons. I usually fit about 20 on a 9 x 12" cookie sheet. Bake at 375 for about 9 minutes or until golden brown.

For the filling:

  1. Use an electric hand mixer to combine all ingredients. Using a knife or a cake spatula, dab a little bit of icing on half of the cookies and top with the remaining cookies to form sandwiches.
