Berry Shortcake

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
  2. Combine flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar in a large bowl. Cut in the butter and shortening.
  3. Mix in the half & half and the orange juice.
  4. Drop large balls of the mixture onto a greased cookie sheet. You should end up with 8 total so just make them all equal in size. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with the demerara sugar. You can use regular sugar if you'd prefer, but the demerara sugar is more of a brown sugar, and it adds a nice crunch. It's what I usually use on top of scones as well.
  5. Bake for 15 minutes or until brown. Cool. Toss berries with as much sugar as you want and let sit for at least 15 minutes in the fridge so that the sugar soaks in. Serve shortcakes with berries and ice cream or whipped cream.
