Fall Spiced Sugar Cookies
Ingredients:
- Fall Spiced Sugar Cookies
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 3/4 teaspoon ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon allspice
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 cup (2 sticks) butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- Icing:
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1/3 cup milk (I was out of milk and used half & half, which worked out unexpectedly well)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
- Combine all ingredients with an electric mixer until smooth.
Instructions:
- Fall Spiced Sugar Cookies:
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
- Whisk together the dry ingredients (flour through the nutmeg) in a medium sized bowl and set aside.
- Cream the sugars and the butter with a wooden spoon or an electric mixer in a large bowl. Add the egg and vanilla and beat until smooth.
- Add the dry ingredients and beat at a low speed until dough forms.
- Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface and cut out whatever shapes you want with some cookie cutters. I love sugar cookies to be super thin so I ended up getting close to 3 dozen cookies, but if you make them thick you will probably get about 2 dozen.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes until the edges are just very slightly browned. Cool and decorate.
