Meatball Flatbread Pizza

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Meatball Flatbread Pizza:
  2. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  3. Cut the Ciabatta bread in half, lengthwise. Spread pizza sauce over each half and add the meatballs. Top with slices of mozzarella cheese.
  4. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until the cheese is melted. Top with the basil leaves immediately after taking it out of the oven and serve.
  5. Pizza Sauce:
  6. Heat a pan over medium-high heat and melt the butter. Add the onion and saute for 2 minutes or so until starting to soften.
  7. Add the garlic, the wine and all of the spices (oregano through onion powder). Allow most of the wine to cook off before adding the tomatoes (including the juice).
  8. Use a potato masher or a fork to break up the whole tomatoes. You can run the whole thing through a blender if you want the sauce to be smooth, but I left it chunky. Add the salt and pepper. Reduce the heat and simmer for 15 minutes. Adjust seasoning as needed.
  9. Meatballs:
  10. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
  11. Combine all ingredients with your hands (be a man!) and roll into meatballs (whatever size you like). I made mine small for the pizza.
  12. Put on a greased baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes or until meat is cooked through.
