Orange Chocolate Chip Scones
Ingredients:
- Orange Chocolate Chip Scones
- 2 cups flour
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup cold butter, cut into cubes or small pieces
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 large egg
- Zest of 1 orange
- Juice of 1 orange
- Heavy Cream
- Demerara sugar
- Orange Glaze:
- 1 cup icing sugar
- 2-3 Tablespoons orange juice
- Zest of 1 orange
Instructions:
- Orange Chocolate Chip Scones:
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
- In a medium bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Combine the dry ingredients with the cold butter in a food processor and pulse until pea-sized bits form. You can do this with a pastry blender or even a fork if you don't have a food processor.
- Stir in the chocolate chips.
- Whisk together the sour cream, egg, orange zest, and orange juice in a small bowl.
- Add the sour cream mixture to the butter mixture and stir together. Use your hands to press the dough into a large ball.
- Place the dough on a lightly floured surface and pat into a 7-inch circle about 3/4-inch thick. Brush with the heavy cream and sprinkle demerara sugar all over.
- Use a sharp knife or pastry cutter to cut the circle into 8 triangles like a pizza. Pull the triangles apart and place them about 1 inch apart on a parchment paper-lined cookie sheet.
- Bake at 400 for 15 to 17 minutes or until golden brown.
- Orange Glaze
- Combine all ingredients until a smooth glaze forms. You may need more or less orange juice depending on how thick you want the glaze to be. Drizzle over the scones before serving.
