Orange Chocolate Chip Scones

  1. Orange Chocolate Chip Scones:
  2. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
  3. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Combine the dry ingredients with the cold butter in a food processor and pulse until pea-sized bits form. You can do this with a pastry blender or even a fork if you don't have a food processor.
  4. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  5. Whisk together the sour cream, egg, orange zest, and orange juice in a small bowl.
  6. Add the sour cream mixture to the butter mixture and stir together. Use your hands to press the dough into a large ball.
  7. Place the dough on a lightly floured surface and pat into a 7-inch circle about 3/4-inch thick. Brush with the heavy cream and sprinkle demerara sugar all over.
  8. Use a sharp knife or pastry cutter to cut the circle into 8 triangles like a pizza. Pull the triangles apart and place them about 1 inch apart on a parchment paper-lined cookie sheet.
  9. Bake at 400 for 15 to 17 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Orange Glaze
  11. Combine all ingredients until a smooth glaze forms. You may need more or less orange juice depending on how thick you want the glaze to be. Drizzle over the scones before serving.
