Spicy Pepper Pizza
Ingredients:
- Pizza dough (store bought or your favourite recipe. I used this one.)
- 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (less or more, depending on your preferred spice level)
- Salt & pepper, to taste
- 8 ounces fresh mozzarella slices or pieces
- 1/2 cup sliced green olives (I used garlic stuffed green olives)
- 1 shallot, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup calabrian chile peppers, whole or sliced
- 1/3 cup fresh basil and arugula, for topping
Instructions:
- Place a pizza stone or pan in the oven and heat to 450 or 475 degrees F, depending on how hot your oven gets.
- Meanwhile, stretch or roll out your pizza dough to the size and shape of your pan or stone.
- Make the sauce by stirring together the crushed tomatoes, garlic, Italian seasoning, thyme and red pepper flakes. Season with salt and pepper, to taste
- When the oven is heated, carefully remove the pan or pizza stone and prepare your pizza on the hot pan. Place your prepared pizza dough down.
- Top with about 1/3 cup of the sauce (or however much you like), spreading it in a thin layer over the pizza dough. Sprinkle on the remaining toppings except for the basil and arugula.
- Bake at 475 for 15-20 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbling, and the crust is golden brown. If the crust is browning too quickly, add foil around the edges.
- Remove from the oven and top with fresh basil and arugula before slicing and serving.
