Spiked Cherry Hot Chocolate
Ingredients:
- 2 cups milk (or non-dairy milk)
- 3 ounces chopped dark chocolate (I used Ghirardelli 70% dark chocolate)
- 1/4 cup cherry juice (I used the juice from a jar of dark, sweet cherries)
- 2 Tablespoons Kirschwasser
- Whipped cream (for topping (or a non-dairy whipped topping))
- Cherries (for topping (I used the cherries from the same jar that I got the juice from - you could also go for maraschino cherries))
Instructions:
- Heat the chocolate in a small saucepan over medium-low heat to melt it.
- While the chocolate is melting, heat the milk the microwave for 1-2 minutes until it is warm but not curdled.
- Add warm milk and cherry juice to the melted chocolate, whisking to combine.
- Continue stirring over medium-low heat until the mixture is heated to your desired temperature. It took about 5 minutes to get hot enough for me.
- Remove from the heat and stir in the Kirsch.
- This makes about 16 ounces so you can pour it into 2 or 3 mugs depending on how large they are. I made 3 smaller drinks because of the alcohol.
- Top with whipped cream and cherries.
